Statement by U.S. Chargé d’Affaires Stuart Wilson after the second round of the election

Congratulations Madagascar.  After a peaceful election season, you have made your voices heard by participating in the most democratic of processes – that of choosing your next president.  We, the U.S. Embassy, had over 40 election observers traveling across Madagascar to witness your country’s electoral process. It was wonderful to see communities throughout the country gathering together to determine the country’s future.  In the coming days, as the results of this peaceful election become clearer, we hope that the candidates continue to urge their supporters to respect the Constitution and the people’s choice.  The United States remains committed to supporting rule of law and good governance, and we look forward to working with our Malagasy partners in the years to come.
