Security Message for U.S. Citizens: Avoid Avenue de l’independence in Antananarivo

U.S. Embassy Antananarivo cautions U.S. citizens to avoid the Avenue de l’independence and its vicinity in central Antananarivo, due to the possibility of politically motivated violence in the area.

Additionally, U.S. citizens should exercise caution and avoid large crowds, gatherings, demonstrations or protests, as even peaceful gatherings can escalate into a violent or dangerous situation.

Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates.  Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security.
