Public (sealed bid) auction at the Embassy

The U.S. Embassy Antananarivo will hold a public (sealed bid) auction of used items, including vehicles, IT equipment, office equipment, household goods and furniture, and other miscellaneous items, at the Embassy parking lot in Andranoro Antehiroka in accordance with the following schedule:

  • Saturday, May 12, 2018 (08:30 to 14:00):

Individuals interested in participating in the auction may visit the U.S. Embassy parking lot on the date and during the times above to view and bid on items for sale.

Those interested in bidding must present a national identity card for registration purpose, fill out a bid card available from Embassy personnel in the parking lot, and make a cash deposit in MGA of 10% of their bid price.   Bidders should retain their deposit receipt.

For vehicles:  Please note that the instructions above apply, with the exception of the deposit amount, which will be Ar 500,000 per bid submitted.

Winning bidders (identified by their bidder registration number) will be posted at 18:00 PM on May 12, 2018 in the U.S. Embassy parking lot.  In the event of a tie, tying bidders will be contacted and provided an opportunity to submit a higher bid.

  • Monday, May 14, 2018 (08:30 to 15:00):

Winners should proceed to the cashiers with their deposit receipt and identity card to pay the balance of the bid price, plus taxes of 44% (unless exempt), and remove the property from the Embassy premises.  Payments must be made in full and in cash.  Tax-exempt purchasers must show an official document showing their tax-exempt status when making payment.

Unsuccessful bidders can proceed to the cashiers with their deposit receipt and identity card, and their deposits will be returned to them.

If a winner changes his or her mind about purchasing the item won or fails to make payment by 15:00 on May 14, 2018, the winner will forfeit his or her 10% deposit, and the second-place runner up (and, as applicable, the third-place runner up) will be contacted beginning May 15, 2018.

For vehicles:  As of 18:00 on May 12, 2018, winning bidders will be contacted (tying bidders will be contacted and provided an opportunity to submit a higher bid).

Unsuccessful bidders can proceed to the cashiers with their deposit receipt and identity card, and their deposits will be returned to them.

Winning bidders must make payment for vehicles via a bank check payable to the “U.S. Embassy Antananarivo” by 15:00 on May 16, 2018.  Applicable taxes on vehicles must be paid at the customs office by the successful bidder(s).  The Embassy will assist in the preparation of the sale paperwork and all sales and deliveries of vehicles will be subject to completion of such paperwork in addition to availability and receipt of funds by the Embassy.  If a winning bidder fails to make payment by the above deadline or changes his or her mind about purchasing the vehicle, such winning bidder will forfeit his or her deposit.

Items/vehicles for sale will be sold “as is”, in lots or otherwise, and cannot be returned under any circumstances.
