FOREIGN NATIONAL INTERN PROGRAM ANNOUNCEMENT
U.S. EMBASSY MADAGASCAR AND COMOROS
ANNOUNCEMENT NUMBER: 004-2024

The U.S. Embassy in Antananarivo is seeking one (1) unpaid intern to serve in the Protocol Office.  Details about this internship are provided below.

Major duties or projects:

  1. Assist with protocol aspects of events hosted by the Ambassador (AMB) and the Deputy Chief of Mission (DCM) by preparing invitations, responding to acceptances and regrets, and welcoming and escorting guests.
  2. Assist with coordinating high-level meetings and visits with the Government of Madagascar (GOM) and the Diplomatic Corps Mission
  3. Assist with incoming invitations and correspondence.
  4. Assist with preparing and delivering holiday gratuities and cards.
  5. Assist with translation of documents.
  6. File documents and prepare records for retirement.
  7. Other tasks as needed by the Front Office (FO)

Scope of work:

The internship involves working with the Protocol Office Team to assist with all protocol matters related to events or meetings involving the Ambassador or the Deputy Chief of Mission.

Qualification requirements (knowledge, skills, abilities):

  • At least three years University studies or bachelor equivalent in English, International Relations, Government, or similar areas of study
  • Public Relations, Social Science, Political Science, Communication, Law
  • Excellent written and spoken English and French. English will be tested.
  • Willingness to be flexible and learn, ready for teamwork.
  • Ability to use computer and email (Outlook, Word, Excel, Publisher)

 Work schedule: Minimum of 20 hours a week and up to 8 hours/day for 40 hours/week

Duration of the internship: Three months to one year

Start date of the internship: May 20, 2024, or when all clearances are granted.

Designated staff member(s) to mentor/supervise the intern: Protocol Assistant and FO Office Management Specialist (OMS)
