Stuart R. Wilson assumed his duties as the Deputy Chief of Mission in Antananarivo, Madagascar, in August 2017. He comes to Mission Madagascar from Douala, Cameroon, where he served as Principal Officer 2015-2017. A Consular Officer by trade, he has served twice in Canada as Quebec City’s Management and Consular Officer and Vancouver’s Chief of American Citizen Services. His other assignments include Consular Chief in Amsterdam; Political Chief in Basrah, Iraq; Immigrant Visa Chief in Port-au-Prince, Haiti; and Visa Chief in Frankfurt, Germany. He has also served domestically as a Watch Officer at the Nuclear Risk Reduction Center (NRRC). He began his career at the U.S. Embassy in Paris, France.
A native of Washington, DC, Mr. Wilson holds a BA degree in Government and Politics from the University of Maryland (College Park) and an MA degree in National Security Studies from Georgetown University. He also earned a diploma for Russian Language in 1990 from the Defense Language Institute in Monterey, California. He speaks French, German, and Russian. He and his wife, Laura, have four children.
