ANTANANARIVO – The new American Corner Antananarivo at the University of Antananarivo offers invaluable research capabilities for university students, faculty, and the general public while deepening the connection between Antananarivo, the United States, and the world. U.S. Ambassador Claire Pierangelo and University of Antananarivo President Mamy Ravelomanana inaugurated the new American Corner at the University of Antananarivo today, officially opening this state-of-the-art research and learning environment to the university community and the Malagasy people.
American Corner Antananarivo is a partnership between U.S. Embassy Madagascar and the University of Antananarivo and its Anglophone Studies Department. The American people, through the U.S. government, equipped the center with more than 50,000 USD in technology and furnishings. Fondation Axian is providing high-speed internet connectivity.
Ambassador Pierangelo highlighted the importance of the new American Corner: “Today is the start of a new chapter in the partnership between University of Antananarivo and the U.S. Embassy. This is an opportunity for our institutions to “think global, act national” as we collaborate to provide students and faculty access to high-quality educational opportunities and to strengthen the quality of education at Madagascar’s flagship university.”
American Corner Antananarivo is one of three American Corners in Madagascar, and part of a network of more than 700 similar spaces operated by the U.S. government worldwide to provide access to reliable information about the United States and the world. American Corners offer the opportunity for people to learn about American culture and shared American-Malagasy values, to pursue educational opportunities and gain technical and entrepreneurial skills, and to improve their English. The most important capacity of American Corners is the ability for individuals and groups to join in-person and virtual conversations about the big issues that face your community, your nation, and our world.
