Message for U.S. Citizens: First Message 3/25 with Info Request
7 MINUTE READ
March 25, 2020

This is the first message for March 25 concerning requests for evacuation.

As the State Department continues to explore all options, please be aware that a possible evacuation flight might go to a third country and from that country you would be responsible for finding onward flights to the United States.

Some evacuation efforts in the region have been routed through Addis Ababa. Please see the following website for current information about conditions there:   https://et.usembassy.gov/covid-19-information/

Please consider this information. If you have requested evacuation assistance but know you would NOT want to take a flight to Addis or to any other countries, please email ANTANACS@state.gov to advise. As the State Department explores options it is useful to have good estimates based on the option we are pursuing. If previously you emailed to say you would not be interested in an option to Addis Ababa but you remain interested in evacuation to the United States, please inform ANTANACS@state.gov .

The following information is repeated from previous emails:

On March 20, the Government of Madagascar suspended all international air travel for 30 days.  The U.S. Embassy is exploring all options for U.S. citizens who remain in Madagascar and wish to leave.

We will continue monitoring local developments closely and will share additional information as it becomes available.  We are experiencing a high volume of inquiries and will respond via email to those who have enrolled in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) or have otherwise provided contact information as we have additional information.

We will send out twice-daily emails to those enrolled to inform whether or not there have been any changes. The Embassy’s COVID-19 website will also continue to be updated.

The Department of State has issued a Global Level 4 Health Advisory advising U.S. citizens to not travel due to the global impact of COVID-19.

The Government of Madagascar declared a Public Health Emergency in Madagascar, on March 20, 2020.

If you are a U.S. citizen attempting to depart Madagascar but have been unable to secure a commercial flight, and you haven’t already contacted ANTANACS@state.gov about an evacuation, please send the following information to ANTANACS@state.gov:
