August 31, 2021

The Government of Madagascar (GOM) has announced the arrival of 200,000 doses of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine and a plan for making these doses available for those who received the first dose of Covidshield. The U.S. Embassy strongly encourages those wanting to receive a COVID-19 vaccine to take advantage of this opportunity.

There are 99 vaccination sites across eight districts; please find below the sites within Antananarivo, as provided by the Ministry of Public Health:

  • 12 sites in Ambohidratrimo
  • 18 sites in Antsimondrano
  • 12 sites in Avaradrano
  • 16 sites in Renivohitra

For vaccine site locations outside Antananarivo and Antsirabe, please contact the local district health authorities.

If you or your family members wish to receive the second dose of AstraZeneca, vaccination sites are now accepting walk-ins. Sites are experiencing an influx of individuals. We therefore recommend that you go early in the morning and bring your vaccination card with a valid form of identification as recognized by Malagasy authorities. Most sites will be open from 8:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Please note that these vaccines are being administered through the Malagasy health system. The U.S. Embassy cannot make or guarantee appointments through this system.

For those who have not yet been vaccinated, more than 300,000 doses of the Johnson&Johnson vaccines are also available. Those interested can register online at: https://vaksiny.gov.mg
