U.S. Ambassador Claire Pierangelo Inaugurates Renovated American Corner in Taolagnaro
On Friday, August 5, 2022, U.S. Ambassador Claire Pierangelo was joined by local authorities and the QMM local director to officially reopen the extensively renovated public information center at the American Corner in Taolagnaro.
The American Corner is now double its previous size. The U.S. Government has provided nearly $50,000 in new technology, furniture, and fixtures, including a 3D printer, 16 new computers, and video conferencing equipment.
YALI Program: American Corner Taolagnaro Hosts Alumnus Paubert T. Mahatante
The Minister of Fisheries and Blue Economy, an alumnus of the Mandela Washington Fellowship for Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI), gave a presentation of the program to members of the American Corner August 18. The Minister offered application tips and shared his own experience as a 2016 participant in the program. YALI will welcome 700 young leaders from across Africa to the United States in the summer of 2023 for an executive-style program designed to build skills and empower participants to lead in their communities.
MeetUS Program: “Maryland: America in Miniature” Engages Audience
U.S. Embassy Madagascar’s Economic and Commercial Affairs Officer Paul Colombini was the featured guest on the MeetUS program August 31 on the U.S. Embassy Madagascar Facebook page. Colombini’s presentation, “Maryland: America in Miniature,” focused on the culture and history of Maryland, his home state. Maryland is located in the Mid-Atlantic region of the United States. The MeetUS program offers the public a chance to practice English language listening and writing skills. Members of American Corner Taolagnaro are able to attend live talks every Wednesday.

The American Corner Taolagnaro is part of a worldwide network of American Spaces, each of which provides a welcoming space to connect with our new friends. Established in collaboration with the U.S. Embassy, QMM Rio Tinto, and the English Center of Fort Dauphin, this cross-cultural resource center provides access to books, computers, tablets, e-readers, and DVDs/CDs to the Fort-Dauphin community to promote American culture and the English language. The Corner also hosts a variety of programs, including a bi-weekly English Café, American movies, and cross-cultural celebrations. Like all American Corners around the world, our programs are free and open to the public.
